I decided to pick a fabric that will go with the color scheme of Addy's party, so she will match!
This was also my first experience making button holes! I found the manual for my yard sale sewing machine online so I was able to figure it out. I don't have the fancy one step button hole feature so I did them manually. They weren't exactly the same, but they work!
It was very hard to get a decent shot of Addy in her dress because she can't stand on her own, but here is our best try!
(The color on this photo is WAY off because I had to edit it for the dress to show up best)
I have already made a few alterations since taking this photo, I put a couple of darts around the high waist for a better fit and I lowered the neckline a bit so it sits better on her while she's moving around.
Not too bad for my first ever clothing project, eh? I would also like to note that this project was way easier than my horrible clutch, beautiful bibs, and maybe even easier than my kindle covers.
I may make this a tradition for her young years. Real Meaning: I may make this a tradition until she can verbally express how much she hates a dress that I make her.

Super cute! Definitely an inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteYou did great! Those little flower buttons are the perfect touch. I did my first button holes a few months ago and was so proud of myself. Okay, so the machine did all the real work, but still...I did a button hole! The dress looks like a great fit. I laughed at your comment about Addy reaching an age where she doesn't want to wear the dresses you make. I completely understand. I'm cramming lots of homemade stuff in while I can; before that day comes and Kendry tells me its no longer cool for him to wear that stuff. He is already shying away from my kisses now. Augh!
