We have been trying to do a reading as  family each day of Advent so far. We have missed a few but for the most part we do our best.  I read and Jon tries to keep Addy somewhat attentive for five minutes.  It's quite comical actually, but we still want to do it so that whatever year Addy actually remembers she will remember this tradition of Celebrating Christ's Birthday.

I have caught myself thinking, "well Addy won't remember if we did it or not" in several areas of life, but more so this season, and I'm realizing if I'm doing something ONLY to teach Addy then that's pretty hypocritical.  We should celebrate Advent because I feel God has called me to celebrate Advent - not just to teach her that it's important.  Oh how kids bring you to a whole new level of accountability :)

For instance - We shouldn't give baked goodies to our neighbors just so our kids see us showing love to neighbors.  We should do it because we actually LOVE our neighbors.

We shouldn't buy gifts for the needy to show our kids that it's good to give.  We should do it because we LOVE to give.

So I have been praying that God would line my heart up with our actions of example to Addy whenever I have those feelings of, "well it's just so much WORK to do that."

We a reading out of the The Jesus Storybook Bible: Every Story Whispers His Name for Advent with a reading schedule I found here.  I love the writing in this great book, and the illustrations are awesome.

How are you celebrating Advent.
