An almost blank slate to house some serious crafting.
You see, part of my problem with crafting/sewing/scrapping whatever it may be, is I hate dragging out all my "stuff" and remembering what I have and digging it all out of boxes and then having to put it all away again. If I am going to be committed to projects more frequently I wanted a space that would make it easier (cause we all know that the projects themselves are NOT easy for me).
I have been searching Pinterest for inspiration after inspiration and put a bunch of ideas together to create my craft space.
Jon did the manual labor or putting up my storage areas and I went into organizational heaven. Project costs:
2 pieces of peg board: $14
3 Pieces of Furring Stripp (to mount pegboard): $3
1 can oops red paint: $2
1 can purple spray paint:$3.50
1 box of hooks & organiational things for the pegboard: $11
Total cost: $33.50
We painted the pegboards with the Oops paint and spay painted all my containers with the purple. Heaven forbid my craft organization system not be pretty in some way.
From top left down:
- Framed thread and bobbins on cut dowels that I already had
- 1st clear contain has buttons
- 2nd clear container has other types of closures (magnetic, elastic, velcro)
- The three painted prescription pill bottles (painted) have different types of straight pins in them
-The purple box container (bottom left) has sewing needles, embroidery needles, etc.
- The 1st soup can has scrapping pens and the 2nd has sewing odds & ends (pens, markers, seam ripper, feet for sewing machine).
The rest is pretty easy to see - the flowery box has stamps in it, and the green, black, red hanging things are clothes pins wrapped in embroidery thread so it doesn't get all knotted up.
Seriously how cute are my free storage containers?!
My second Pegboard has all my wrapping supplies!!
Lots and lots of gift bags. I still have a bunch of "baby" gift bags stored in another closet because I just couldn't cram them all in. Shelf brackets are holding up the wrapping paper.
A rod with hooks at either end is holding some ribbon (fabric and wrapping).
The little mailbox is housing all my cards and gift tags.
The little basket is housing the few bows that I have.
Below that is Jon's Coke Crate with misc items including paints, glues, clay, a wooden A, and a few other random things.
The first black drawers has all my interfacing and patterns.
Second drawer has wrapping tissue paper.
You may recognize the magnet board from my Advent Calendar I made which I repurposed as an inspration board. The clips on it were in my stocking from my mom and I added magnets to the back. I also have my magnetic pin cusion stuck to it :)
In the corner I have this lovely storage which I have had for YEARS (probably 11).
And here is all the stuff that lies beneath!
The top shelf is some unfinished projects and a bunch of paper that is my aunts that I have right now.
The middle shelf is all my fabric folded neatly.
The bottom shelf has a couple of boxes. The left box has scrapping stickers, embellisments
The right box has all my scrapping paper.
I don't scrap much anymore (I am really loving the ease of ordering photo books!) but I don't want to get rid of my stuff cause I occasionally get a whim to make cards or do some sort of small scrap projects.
On the shelf above this wooden shelf I have some idea books, a laminator, a box with batting, and a huggies box designated for gifts that I buy before Christmas - mostly stocking stuffers.
My sewing table is a drop leaf table that was left in the first house we bought when we moved in. We planned on refinishing it... haha. But it actually works pefectly for this because I when I'm not actively using the room It's super small but then folds out to give me enough space.
Next to my machine is my latest project that has been giving me grief... a clutch. But I finally got the zipper on so I think it will survive!.
I'm super happy with how everything turned out - especially with the little amount that I spent!!
I've been using it almost every day since we finished it and I'm thinking it will get lots of use! While organizing all of my "stuff" I realized how much stuff I actually have so now when I start a project I can see what I have and what I need which will be nice because I usually would assume I didn't have it and go buy a new one - which explains why I have 3 fabric marking pens... sheesh.
I love the peg board idea and re-purposing the containers with pretty purple paint. Thanks for sharing the organizational tips.
ReplyDeleteCan you hear me swooning? :) You know how much I love to organize. Great job, Cassie! How fun to use that space for something so functional, as opposed to just storage.
ReplyDeleteLooks great, what a fun idea. I totally agree about what a drag it is to have to dig out your stuff. Nice!
